Tonsillectomy & Adenoidectomy
Removal of the Adenoids and/or Tonsils in children and young adults may be needed in cases of frequently recurrent and chronic infection problems. Dr. Paddie has full training and 20 years of experience in these procedures.
Chronic Ear Infections, "Tubes" & "Surfer's Ear"
"Surfer's ear" is an abnormal bony growth within the ear canal caused by exposure to cold water and wind. Over time it can cause partial or even complete blockage of the ear canal or recurrent infections. A new Micro-Chisel surgical technique involves surgical correction done entirely through the ear canal, allowing for faster healing, greater safety and less discomfort. Dr. Paddie was one of the very first surgeons to use this technique and has been extremely gratified to see surfers return to their beloved activities within three to four weeks. If you are a surfer who is experiencing hearing loss or frequently recurring infections help is in sight.
As an ear surgeon Dr. Paddie also continues to help children with chronic fluid problems and adults with more complex and chronic middle ear and mastoid diseases including reconstruction of the middle ear and ossicular bones.
Nasal Obstruction & Snoring
Snoring has been outed. Snoring was previously considered a social problem and was not discussed or taken seriously. Today we are very acutely aware that snoring may be associated with underlying more serious problems. People snore because their airway passages are obstructed and hence they may have oxygen deficiency. This causes fatigue and decreased brain function. Their body's effort to overcome this obstruction leads to increased stress on the heart and blood vessels. This causes increased risk of heart attack, high blood pressure and strokes.
Dr. Paddie will take a history and do a physical and may recommend a sleep study. This can now be more conveniently obtained with an overnight take home sleep study machine. Treatment options range from medications to surgical procedures and possibly the use of a CPAP breathing machine. If needed, advances in surgical techniques allow the nasal and oral procedures to be done with reduced postoperative discomfort. The newer CPAP machine are quieter and have a variety of mask choices for greater comfort.
If you or your loved one is snoring with distributed sleep and fatigue, then come in for this important evaluation.
